Movie & Soundtrack choice + style influence

I was interested in using Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor's soundtracks for my work inspiration. I really like the Social Network soundtrack but I ended up choosing Gone Girl because I feel the movie has more emotional weight to explore. Here's the soundtrack playlist for reference:

Gone Girl Playlist

One of my preferred tracks:

Movie themes: chasing perfection, mythos of coupledom, victimhood/abuse, unfairness, appearances over truth, masculinity/femininity, personhood/success and freedom vs relationship

Style & artist models:

I'm not planning to use a particular artist model's style but I'm inspired by watercolour works that use pastel-like colours and a more washed out look for my colouration. It will also help to emphasize the dreaminess and fantasy aspect of Amy's view of her relationship. Looking at some New Zealand watercolourists for inspiration:

In terms of linework I plan to use inkart which I enjoy using with nib pens and watercolour because india ink will not run when water is applied to it and it has dried. I started using this technique when I was 16  after being inspired by this artist

Loki lounge potential venue check

We went and checked out a few venues around the place, one I suggested was the Loki Lounge which my friend runs, however we ended up going with the Roxy venue space as the layout and theme of the space itself suited the ideas in our exhibition a bit better:

Exhibition visits and notes

Kiwi Art House: Kiwiana, bright colours, mix of landscapes and objects. The layout is a bit mix and matched and cramped in terms of exhibition space, feels a bit discordant and overwhelming.

Thistle Hall: Taxidermy, photographic exhibit, darker themes and more contemporary, grotesque beauty?Layout is white room, pictures and sculptures well spaced and some plinths in centre, shelves and hanging objects along with framed images, feels like a collection.

Suite Gallery: Large scale, colorful paintings, Abstract, Pointillism, fragmented shapes that form a figure or scene when looked upon more closely. Layout is spaced out, paintings quite far apart, white room gallery, works for large paintings but would feel cold/empty if the images were a bit smaller. Feels dramatic, captivating and intriguing.

Eyeball Kicks: Illustrative works with varied themes, narrative feelings, graphic works, experimental and mix of traditional and digital. Layout feels busy but segmented by artist, more of a casual, relaxed and trendy feel, brick and wood space, mostly hanging pictures, some in cabinets and cases.

Matchbox Gallery: Artwork to a theme, theme seemed based around plants and flowers, variety of artists spaced out, illustrative, abstract and contemporary works, subtle designs, not overly colourful. Layout included hanging framed images and pinned works, white room, plinths with some sculptures or jewelery, mid section walls, works well spaced out, feels airy, dreamy and light.

Overview

For this paper we are creating an exhibition in a 5 member group. We named the group consonance over the harmonic theme of storytelling that we are sharing throughout our works.

Group members: Gin, Me, Sayydah, Lily & Roberta

Theme: Storytelling, Movies, Movie Soundtracks, Transformation.

Exhibition layout: Lit stands with 4 - 5 works on them, A3 as smallest size, non linear storylines relating to our chosen movie/songs.

Activity: There will be prints of our artworks that will be segmented into squares that the audience can put together in a storybook like way, keeping fragments of each of our artwork, this will be laid out on a table.

Venue: we chose the Roxy theatre as it was relevant to our theme, we will include 2 extra days for viewings (apart from opening night) and have platters for the opening evening. We are allowing for max 100 people, but will see how many will attend.
